Water Damage Restoration in Dallas After Storm

Storm Debris Causes Property Damage

A Dallas storm caused this customer’s tree to break and fall onto his property.  When we arrived and saw the size of the tree and the damage it caused, we knew we needed to work quickly to prevent secondary damage.

Secondary damage is any damage that is caused after the primary damage.  In this case, the primary damage was storm debris damaging the property and causing water damage.  Secondary damage would be considered any subsequent water damage or mold on the property. Many times, secondary damage is not covered by a typical homeowner’s insurance claim.  With more storms looming, we had no time to waste.

Filing an insurance claim and organizing a roof replacement or permanent fix requires days or weeks.  During a major storm event, many homeowners have the same kind of property damage and file claims at the same time.  The increase in claims puts a strain on insurance companies and their adjusters. It can take days to get a visit from a claims adjuster and even longer for a roofing contractor to prepare the materials to fix the roof.  For this reason, emergency roof tarping services are needed.

Roof Tarp

The first task was to safely remove the tree from the property.  As the tree was cut into manageable pieces and removed from the roof, our technicians began to install a temporary roof tarp.  Our roof tarps are thick, weatherproof plastic tarps. They are meant to protect the damaged roof until it can be permanently replaced.

We are often asked by homeowners to first apply an emergency tarp to their property and then also provide permanent roof repair.  Our reconstruction team is happy to provide both services. While we are installing the temporary tarp, we can take all the measurements and documentation for a permanent roof replacement.  This documentation is then sent to your insurance adjuster for approval. If any other part of the property was storm damaged, we can take all the documentation needed and send it to your insurance adjuster for approval.

Water Removal in Dallas

This Dallas home suffered water damage when the tree fell into it and let the thunderstorm waters in.  After the tree had been removed and the structural integrity of the property was validated, our water mitigation technicians entered the home and extracted all standing water.  Water must be removed and the drying process started within 48 hours of the damage due to the risk of mold growth.  Fortunately, our crews worked quickly enough to meet this deadline, and our mold remediation team did not find any signs of growth after a mold inspection.

To dry the property, our team ensured a tight seal on the roof tarp, and then set professional dehumidification equipment on the property.  This equipment absorbs the excess moisture in the air while at the same time introducing warm, dry air. To validate our drying process, our technicians visited the property once a day and took atmospheric readings such as temperature and humidity.  During every visit, the equipment can be relocated or taken away as drying goals are reached.

If you are in need of water mitigation in Dallas Fort Worth, make sure to ask to ask your restoration company for their drying log.  This is a good way to know if they are properly drying your structure and helping minimize the risk of mold. If they cannot offer a drying log or do not offer drying services, consider using another restoration company with a proven water damage restoration process.  If you are filing a homeowner’s insurance claim, this drying log should also be presented to your insurance adjuster as proof of a successful water damage cleanup.
